Lumberjacks put to the test

By Farnham Herald in Community News

THE next generation of lumberjacks put their axe and saw skills to the test at Merrist Wood agricultural college.

Stihl Timbersports, the world-renowned elite lumberjack sports competition, put the hopefuls through their paces before inviting the most promising athletes to receive further training, with the eventual aim of competing in the British Championship.

Lumberjack sports origins go back to 19th century Australia where foresters would compete with each other outside work, putting their forestry skills to the test.
