Alton beat Social this time

ANOTHER Alton town derby in the men’s National Top Club competition took place at the Alton Social green.

This time, victory went to Alton Bowling Club by 3 rinks to 2. Alton will next face Cove B.

John Blair chalked up a win in the National Champion of Champions, scoring 21-11 against Carl Taylor of Cove to proceed to the third round.

David Sims’ campaign in the County Four-Wood Singles, in which he was a finalist last year, came to an end. Paul Schofield’s triples team lost their County match away to Basingstoke Town.

John Blair achieved more successes in the Basingstoke & District competitions, beating Ashley Nethercliffe of Oakley in the Champion of Champions. And in the pairs, Blair and David Sims won against Jim Dixon’s Old Basing pair. However, Alton’s other pair, Paul Schofield and Peter Tarbutt, narrowly lost 23-25 to Trevor Morgan’s Basingstoke Town team.

Alton beat Rogate 4-1 in the Three Counties triples and Alton A won 5-0 against St Mary Bourne in the Whitchurch League triples. The Stan Hardman League bowlers won 5-2 at home against Medstead, but the men’s rinks lost their Basingstoke League match against Basingstoke Town 1-4.
