Thirty-two Girl Guides and Rangers and their six leaders from the 1st Bourne Guiding unit in Farnham spent their half-term holidays visiting the cultural sights of Paris.

The trip included many excursions to tourist highlights in Paris such as the Champs Elysees, Notre Dame, the Louvre, a river boat tour on the Seine, Disneyland and opportunities to practice their French in hypermarkets and cafes.

It was also a special celebration for the unit with seven older Rangers being awarded their Baden Powell Challenge Awards two floors up on the Eiffel Tower.

The award is the highest award a Guide can achieve and demonstrates their commitment to Guiding.

Unit leaders were able to gain experience in taking their guiding members on international trips in order for them to gain their international license.

The unit said their trip would not have been possible without the hard and dedicated fundraising work of the volunteer leaders as well as a very generous donation from the Farnham Lions Club.

The donation and fundraising supported those financially less able to attend the trip, making it a very inclusive and memorable trip for all concerned.

Girlguiding offers girls and young women, quality girl-led guiding opportunities, presenting challenge and adventure, which develop their potential and enable them to make a positive contribution to their community and beyond.

Shortage of volunteers is always ongoing and the unit is looking for people who have free time and would love to hear from any potential adult volunteers.
