THE Co-op supermarket in Rowledge has again been targeted by ram-raiders.

A van reversed into the village shop in Recreation Road at around 6.45am on Thursday (February 16) morning.

Though unconfirmed, police reportedly later stopped a van in Hampshire and took the driver into custody.

The shop front has been badly damaged, but according to the manager nothing was taken.

It will remain closed, however, until repairs are carried out to make the doorway safe - hopefully re-opening later on Thursday.

The village shop was targeted in a near-identical incident in January 2016, as thieves again tried and failed to smash a vehicle through the front door.

It is believed the ram-raiders were targeting the shop’s cash machine which is just a couple of yards inside the front door.
