A 58-YEAR-OLD Farnham man has been released under investigation after a bomb scare at Guildford station.
The Hale Road resident was arrested in connection with an incident at Guildford station on June 24.
British Transport Police (BTP) were called to the station at 10.42am following reports of a suspicious package.
The item was assessed by specialist teams, and a controlled explosion took place.
The man, from Farnham, was arrested on June 25 on suspicion of sending an item designed to give the appearance of an explosive device, and detained under the Anti-Terrorism, Crime and Security Act 2001.
Police confirmed this week the man had been released under investigation while enquiries continued – but the Herald understands he has not been allowed to return home.
The station was evacuated for around three hours while BTP officers and two army bomb disposal units dealt with the device.
By-standers reported hearing two controlled explosions – one at 1pm and another larger one 15 minutes later.
