A MAN has been charged in connection with an alleged knife attack behind the Phyllis Tuckwell furniture shop in Dogflud Way last week.

Adam Court, 37, of Station Road in Aldershot, was arrested in the early hours of Monday morning (April 1) and charged under Section 4 of the Public Order Act, which relates to the fear or provocation of violence.

He has been released on bail and will appear at Guildford Crown Court on Tuesday, April 16.

It comes after an Upper Hale man, Carl Irving, 48, suffered an injury to his arm after challenging three people behind the hospice furniture shop last Wednesday night (March 27).

Mr Irving told the Herald he parked his car in front of the shop just before 8pm, intending to cross the road to use the gym at Farnham Leisure Centre. But on hearing the sound of breaking glass, he went to investigate and disturbed three people - two men and a woman.

Carl claims one of the men then threatened him and lunged forwards, at which point the Upper Hale man turned and raised his arm to defend himself.

He escaped by jumping over a wall and made it to the other side of the road – but then noticed three large gashes in his jumper, and a “nasty scratch” on his arm, which he believes to have been caused by a knife.

Carl did not require hospital treatment, but called the police and waited in the leisure centre. It was a long wait, however, as the 999 police contact centre informed him officers would respond “within 72 hours” – and he was not seen by a PC until the next day.

Carl’s wife Wendy subsequently took to Facebook to criticise the force’s response time, asking: “What has to happen to warrant immediate police attendance?”

Responding, Neighbourhood Inspector Gary Smith apologised, adding: “On the face of the report, I wholeheartedly agree that police should have been deployed.”
