BUS WINDOWS have been smashed in two incidents on Chalet Hill in Bordon.
The first reportedly happened on Monday, January 6 on a Basingstoke bus, followed by a second incident two days later at around 4.45pm, on the number 23 bus which was en route to Alton.
Shane Crisp, assistant operations manager at Stagecoach South, said another driver had warned about “people slingshotting stones”.
He told the Herald: “It could cause potential injuries and it affects services. It’s mindless people who don’t think about consequences.
“I spoke to the driver and she saw kids running away – there were three of them.
“She heard the smash and turned around, and saw them running away.”
He confirmed no-one was sat in the seat next to the window. “But passengers were upset because it renders the bus unusable and inconveniences them – they had to wait 45 minutes for a replacement bus,” he said.
“We want people to travel on the bus and feel safe – this discourages people and isn’t the impression we want to give.”
He added the cost of the damage was nearly £800 for the glass, labour costs and time off the road.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary confirmed they are “investigating a report of criminal damage”.
They said it happened when the bus was travelling on Branson Road, Bordon, at the junctions with Chalet Hill, and added: “The driver reported that some kind of projectile hit the window, causing the damage.”
