THIEVES targeted the ATM outside Waitrose in Farnham in the early hours of Monday morning - stealing "a significant amount of money".

At around 2am on November 20, a dark coloured 4x4 style vehicle and a dark saloon vehicle were seen entering Lower Hart car park. It is now believed one of the vehicles was used to pull open the ATM housing.

Investigating Officer, Detective Sergeant Ben Green said: “I am keen to hear from anybody who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area or vehicles matching the description in the area around the time of the incident.

“A significant amount of money has been stolen and we are determined to trace those responsible and bring them to justice.”

Anybody who witnessed any suspicious activity or with any information is urged to phone 101 quoting 45170128988.

Two police officers and a forensics team attended the scene on Monday morning, assessing the damage and gathering evidence. The Waitrose store remained open despite the incident.

Bollards seemingly prevented the ATM being ram-raided, as was the case at Waitrose in Bagshot on November 11, but the ATM itself was removed from its metal casing and heavily damaged.

Officers initially suspected wires protruding from the cash machine indicated a detonator and explosives were used, but it is now thought something was tied around the ATM and a vehicle used to pull it away.

The raid left the pavement outside Waitrose littered with banking receipts and various other chunks of metal and components of the ATM.
