A 40-year-old woman was arrested at an address in Alton on September 20, on suspicion of human trafficking, where police also identified a potential victim of modern slavery.

The woman was arrested on suspicion of human trafficking, being concerned in managing a brothel, and on suspicion of money laundering. She has since been released under investigation.

Officers carried out the targeted activity as part of a wider modern slavery operation by Wiltshire Police.

They visited a number of addresses to check on the welfare of employees who were potential victims of sexual exploitation. A total of seven people were identified as potential victims of modern slavery and all of those identified have been interviewed and their welfare assessed.

Detective Inspector Paul Hacker said: “Following comprehensive intelligence, and pro-active work with our partner agencies, there was an indication that some addresses were linked to sexual exploitation.

“We are constantly building up an intelligence picture in relation to this ever-changing crime and deploying our resources accordingly to help bring offenders to justice, and protect those who are being exploited.”

Tom Dowdall, National Crime Agency deputy director, said: “I would urge anyone who sees the potential signs of exploitation to report their concerns to the modern slavery helpline on 08000 121700.”
