SURREY Police are calling for people to “secure their property” and “remove expensive tools from vehicles”, after yet another van was broken into last week.

Police received a report that a van had been broken into on Ridgway Hill Road, Farnham, overnight on July 17-18. Although no physical damage was caused to the vehicle, despite it being locked at the time the break-in would have happened, power tools were stolen from the van.

A report of the incident was posted in Farnham Rants, when a Facebook user said: “My rant is why can’t some people earn a living honestly? My dad’s van got broken into last night down Ridgway Hill Road and some lowlife has stolen all his tools! That’s his livelihood!”

In response to the most recent in a string of similar crimes, sergeant Andy Crane from Waverley Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “I understand how devastating it can be to lose expensive equipment that is also someone’s livelihood.

“I encourage people to secure their property and, where possible, actually remove expensive tools from vehicles.

“As part of our daily business, we monitor crime types and trends, and very much need our communities to continue to report crime, suspicious activity and their concerns to us.

“Having the best possible understanding of what is happening (or might be emerging) allows us to target our patrols accordingly.”
