FAMILY and friends turned out in force over the bank holiday weekend for the third charity football match in loving memory of Haslemere resident Zak Combe, who died aged 21 in a crash on the A3.

This year’s event was at Haslemere Cricket Club. Jason and Juliet Combe and Zak’s brother Harry hold the seven-a-side memorial tournament with live music and a raffle annually in aid of road safety charity Brake.

Jason said: “The day was a great success. Many thanks to Lythe Hill Hotel and all the other companies for their kind donations, as well as many donations from friends and family.

“The football has grown, with over 120 players this year. We had a hog roast followed by paella supplied by celebrity chef Guy Wolley and Dylan’s brought an ice cream van.

“We think we have raised around £3,000 for Brake.

“Many thanks to the club, to Lyndon and Vicki Owen, our new recruit Laurence Coady and, as always, Jay and Kim Mall.

“We did our 21 balloon release in memory of Zak. It was a beautiful time for reflection, when tears were shed by many.

“The day is a time for family and friends to get together and remember our beautiful son, brother grandson and friend Zak Combe.

“You will never be forgotten and you will be loved always.”
