A MASS outing was made to London’s O2 arena by Shottermill Junior School to take part in the largest children’s choir in the world.
Most of the school took up an invitation to celebrate the 20th anniversary of national singing event Young Voices, and sing in a huge choral event at the O2.
Young Voices, made up from 8,000 primary school children, is celebrating a landmark year by mounting 20 arena dates up and down the country.
Teachers and pupils taking part in Young Voices concerts, practice the dance routines and learn the songs in their music lessons for many months before coming together with other schools to sing their hearts out.
Head Kate Barnes said. “We were by far the largest school participating on the night with 225 children and adults, We travelled up on four large coaches with 31 adults in attendance. We made a very long snake to say the least and the O2 marshals could not believe how large our school party was.
“The children loved the experience and said that it was the best trip they’d ever been on. They loved watching the performers on stage as well as taking part in the whole concert, especially with their mini torches and glow in the dark T-shirts.
“They enjoyed learning all of the songs and the complicated dance moves, which we had been learning from July of last year. The children and parents were also incredibly thankful to the staff for taking them up to the O2 arena and felt it was an incredible and unique opportunity.
“Everyone is asking whether we will be doing it again next year.”
