FARNHAM has been hit by no fewer than 20 separate roadworks schemes in the final days of the school summer holidays.
Traffic delays were expected across the town as local authorities and utility companies rushed to fix roads, repair pipes and connect new properties to water, gas and electricity supplies before the beginning of the autumn term on Monday.
According to the website roadworks.org, delays were ‘likely’ as a result of 14 roadworks schemes in the Farnham area this week, while delays were ‘possible’ in six other cases.
Major schemes include:
Peeps into the Past: When Farnham welcomed refugees of war
Dream of a white Christmas denied in Surrey and Hampshire
Rise in hospital admissions for stress and anxiety in east Berkshire, north east Hampshire, Farnham and Surrey Heath
Peeps into the Past: Castaway Christmas for Tilford's own Robinson Crusoe• Temporary traffic lights in Castle Street until September 1 for works by South East Water.
• Temporary traffic lights on the A287 in Folly Hill from September 2 to 6 for works by South East Water.
• Temporary traffic lights on the A287 Frensham Road from September 2 to 6 for works by South East Water.
• A month-long lane closure on the A287 a mile and a half west of Folly Hill.
One scheme already completed is the closure of a mile-long stretch of Tilford Road between the junctions with Great Austins and Bourne Grove on Wednesday for emergency pothole repairs by Surrey County Council.
