ROYAL Surrey County Hospital charity GUTS has received a £1,000 donation from the Downing Street Charity Shop in Farnham.

GUTS was founded in 1983 by gastroenterologist Professor Chris Marks and provides research, screening and treatment for people diagnosed with bowel cancer.

More than one in eight people will be affected at some time in their lives by bowel cancer, which remains the second biggest cancer killer claiming more than 16,000 lives a year.
