SOME 90 people sat down on Dockenfield village green and enjoyed a picnic fit for the Queen, all dressed in red, white and blue, as they celebrated Queen Elizabeth’s 90th birthday.

The tables were decorated with Union Jacks, red, white and blue tablecloths and adorned with candelabra, silver tea sets and fine china. And of course there were lots of patriotic bunting, flags and music.

Villagers feasted on smoked salmon, dressed salmon, home-made scones, fresh strawberries and cream - all washed down with Champagne, prosecco, fine wines and beer from Frensham Brewery.

There were plenty of children present who as well as enjoying the food had a treasure hunt to entertain them while the adults had competitions for the best dressed table and some brain-teasing table quizzes.

The party began at 2pm and began to break up at 5.30pm, although there were still people enjoying the evening sunshine much later.
