THE annual quiz night organised by volunteers from the South Downs and Central District group of countryside charity CPRE Hampshire raised £1,800 to support its work.

Christopher Napier, chairman of CPRE Hampshire’s planning and policy group, welcomed more than 90 quiz goers to East Meon village hall.

“This year is an important one for the Hampshire branch of CPRE as it celebrates 50 years of working to protect the local countryside for everyone to value and enjoy,” he said.

“While we have many achievements to be proud of, there are massive challenges ahead. These include the drive for economic growth above everything else. CPRE Hampshire is currently campaigning for a green belt around the urban towns and cities in the south of the county, including Fareham, Portsmouth and Winchester.”
