Green is the colour as the two Rotary clubs of Farnham have joined forces to lead the town towards a more sustainable future.

This Saturday (June 7) sees the launch of Big Green Week with residents being encouraged to embrace eco-minded practices and the three Rs: recycling, re-using and reducing waste.

A spokesperson for the Rotary Club said: “Big Green Week helps us to focus on the importance of all the elements relating to our environment and how we all can help to ensure sustainability and improve biodiversity.”

Figures from the Farnham and Farnham Weyside Rotary Clubs have teamed up to produce a list of all the sustainable practices we can do to help protect the environment.

For instance, milk bottle tops and biros can be taken to Hale Community & Youth Centre for recycling, while unwanted clothes can be donated to the clothes swap at St Mark’s Community Centre. Alternatively, ring Rev Stella Wiseman on 07842 761919 for more information.

You can also sign up for a free impartial home energy survey via ZERO carbon Guildford’s website or phone 0300 123 3033 but even small lifestyle changes can reduce environmental impact.

People can reduce rubbish and buy less by reusing shopping bags and investing in a reusable water bottle or coffee cup.

You can also explore alternatives to plastic such as shampoo bars instead of shampoo bottles; a plate on top of a bowl of food instead of clingfilm.

Rotarians have also suggested before you throw something away ask whether it could be repaired and if so consider taking it to the Farnham Repair Café, held on the second Saturday of every month at the Spire Church.

The clubs also provided revellers with information at the recent Sustainability Festival and Rowledge Fayre about what can be recycled and how to improve Swift numbers around Farnham.
