MORE than 100 would-be doctors, nurses and healthcare workers have been given an insight into working at one of the country’s top NHS hospitals.

Sixth form students from colleges in Hampshire and Surrey took part in a ‘Taste of Frimley’ careers evening at Frimley Park Hospital.

They were welcomed by Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust chief executive Sir Andrew Morris. He told students that while they were unlikely to make a fortune working for the NHS, it was hard to beat for job satisfaction and personal development.

In a show of hands, most of the 110 students said they were interested in being either a doctor, nurse or midwife, but there were also a number interested in becoming scientists, radiologists and other vital NHS roles.

After hearing from a consultant surgeon and a nurse about careers in NHS hospitals, they broke into group sessions on keyhole surgery, midwifery, resuscitation and physiotherapy and were shown the hospital’s laboratories, automated pharmacy and simulation training suite.

A number of students signed up to be hospital volunteers, gaining valuable experience while providing support for hospital services.
