FARNHAM’S Royal British Legion VE/VJ Day was more successful than ever last Saturday as it returned to Gostrey Meadow.

The event was opened by the Mayor of Farnham, Mike Hodge, along with Madeleine Smith, from South Farnham School, who took part in a poster competition for Farnham RBL. As well as helping open the event Madeleine also confidently read her own poem, ‘Poppies, Red Poppies’.

There were welcome visits by 1940s and 50s soloist, Natasha, and vintage cabaret group, The Ladies in Red, both of which had the ‘wow factor’ with visitors.

The debut of the vintage tea room was a huge success, which also housed a model display of ‘100 years of tanks’ along with other WWII memorabilia constituting the D-Day Landings. And Paula’s Vintage Parlour produced some magnificent 40s hairstyles.

Farnham RBL’s secretary Ian Hunter would like to thank all those who contributed raffle prizes at the evening party at The Farnham Liberal Club in South Street.

“We are very thankful to the Ministry of Ink, Mr Simm’s Sweetshop, Beverley’s Hat Shop, The Queen’s Head, Squires Garden Centre and Farnham Rugby Club. We are also extremely grateful to all those stall holders and exhibitors who attended on the day. We look forward to seeing them all next year.”
