A SPECIAL lunch in honour of a Royal British Legion stalwart was held at Liphook Golf Club.
Lt Col Jamie Jack, has bowed out as chairman of the Liphook sub-branch of the Headley and District Royal British Legion, handing over the baton to Lt Col Sean Brady.
Jamie joined the RBL branch in 1989, became its chairman in 1993 and has chaired the Bramshott and Liphook Poppy Appeal since 2000.
During his tenure and supported by his wife Ann, Jamie has increased the annual total of donations received from within the parish from £3,000 to more than £12,800 in 2017.
In addition to the annual Poppy Appeal, Jamie has been instrumental in the co-ordination of the Remembrance Day service in November and the Canadian Memorial Service every June featuring Liphook Junior School pupils, which are both held at St Mary’s Church.
His efforts were recognised at the farewell lunch, where 91-year-old Jamie, who grew up in a small village outside Glasgow, moved to Liphook in 1965 and served with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers for 28 years, received a couple of bottles of finest Highland Malt Whisky and a silver ‘Quaich,’ a traditional Scottish drinking cup from RBL members.
