AS part of the wider programme during the forthcoming festival@farnham2001, music lovers can enjoy a series of live concerts, held under canvas in Farnham Library Gardens.

There are five concerts under the Farnham's Own Marquee Club banner. They will be in an intimate club-like atmosphere in a marquee, seating around 100 people. There will be a bar and a proper dance floor.

The concerts feature mainly local musicians and tickets are £5 each, available from Maltings on 01252 726234 or on the door.

Tuesday, June 19 sees a double bill of jazz with local duo, "Pete & Geoff @ Jazz". Geoff Hiscott specialises in piano, bass, guitar, tuba and accordian. He teams up with brilliant young sax player Peter Truin, who appears with the Surrey Youth Jazz Orchestra (appearing at the Castle Street party on June 30 ).

Also on the bill is Out of the Blue, a six-piece modern jazz band which plays a variety of styles including 40s swing, bebop, Latin and ska.

The line-up includes Neil Freemantle (drums), Nigel Taylor (bass), Steve Mackey (guitar), Laurence Durnell (alto and baritone saxophones), Mike Bartley (tenor and soprano saxophones) and Doug Jenkins (tenor and baritone saxophones).

Tom Nolan and the Bluescasters will be in concert on June 20. Regulars at the Farnham Blues and Boogie Club, Tom Nolan and the Bluescasters are the house band at the Eel Pie Club at Twickenham.

The band plays 60s-style British R&B, rough and raucous with raw vocals. The band features Tom Nolan on guitar and vocals, Rick Biddulph on bass and drummer Chris Hunt, who has played with Van Morrison, Lonnie Donegan and Thunderclap Newman.

Thursday, June 21 is Voices and Strings night. This evening of quality music features local artists. The Wessex Chamber Choir, under musical director Nicolas Woods has a repertoire that spans plainsong to madrigals, folk music to arrangements of modern popular music, and church music of the present day.

The Vivaldi Singers Chamber Choir, under director Jacqueline Protheroe, another popular local choir, will be performing a programme of madrigals and English love songs.

Making a guest appearance will be guitar virtuoso Ben Pugsley.

Friday June 22 sees a Cajun workshop followed by dancing to the ZigaZag! Cajun Band. ZigaZag! was a sell-out at Farnham Maltings last year. The band is at the forefront of UK Cajun bands, commanding respect for its music and recordings both at home and in South West Louisiana, the home of Cajun music.

The band upholds the best Cajun traditions, while bringing its own compositions and excitement to the programme, creating the authentic, friendly fais-do-do (house dance) atmosphere.

The line up includes Phil Underwood (accordion & vocals), Carol Wilson (percussion & vocals), Jim Beard (fiddle) and Simon Hopkins (guitar and vocals). The dance workshop begins at 7-30 pm.No experience necessary but smooth-soled shoes recommended.

Saturday June 23 is the turn of The Celebration Band. This Farnham-based cover band plays songs from the 60s to the present day, ranging from rock'n'roll to pop, soul, disco,and beyond. They are Brian Hepworth and Josephine Cullenlead vocals, Brian Lowrey, lead guitar, Dave Angove, drums, Andy Whitehead, keyboards, Rhys David, sax, and Dave Hedley, bass guitar.
