SIX months of temporary traffic lights on the A287 through Churt began last week, as gas network company SGN works on a £525,000 investment to upgrade the gas network in Churt Road.

The essential work involves the replacement of old, metal gas mains with new plastic pipe to ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply.

The work to lay a new plastic pipe will last around six months.

Starting just after the junction with Steepways, contractors will move in 60-100 yard sections along a mile stretch of Churt Road towards the village centre.

Work will take place six days a week, from 8am-5pm, under temporary two-way and three-way lights at junctions, which will be manually controlled between 7am and 9.30am and from 3-7pm.
