A WOMAN who was seriously injured in a car crash on the A3 has died in Southampton General Hospital.

Hampshire Police have confirmed that Gillian Jane Baker, from Portsmouth, died in the early hours of Monday morning.

The 25-year-old driver was badly hurt in an accident close to the Buriton exit on August 3.

Miss Baker was driving north on the A3 at 11.35am when she lost control of her blue Fiat Seicento and collided with the nearside barrier.

The motorist, from Second Avenue, Farlington, was treated at the scene before being airlifted to hospital.

The road was closed in both directions for several hours following the accident, while her male passenger suffered minor injuries.

Police are still appealing for witnesses to the collision or to anyone who saw the car prior to the accident.

Anyone with information should contact Sergeant Nigel Burt of Whitchurch Police on 101, quoting Operation Lauderdale.

Alternatively, witnesses should call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
