PEOPLE living in the shadow of East Hampshire's busiest road could get a quieter life thanks to a new survey.

The Department for Transport will carry out a traffic survey along sections of the A3 through the area this summer.

Ministers want to assess the effect of the Hindhead Tunnel on vehicle numbers and noise emissions a year after its opening.

The survey will lead to the publication of a "noise map" later this year, which could recommend sound barriers in new areas.
