CHURCHER’S College in Petersfield is enjoying another year of celebration of its remarkable, continuing success story.
With 325 A* grades this year in the Churcher’s pot compared to last year’s 329, there is very little change at the top which finds over a quarter of the GCSE grades at the very top A* grade and a very highly creditable 87 per cent in the A* to B category.
Once again there have been some exceptional individual performances. Tom Mitchell, Owen Tutt and Guy Remington have a clean sweep of ten A* grades but they are joined by almost a quarter of all the students in the year recording only top grades of A or A*.
Many of them had taken AS level in maths a year early which adds the cherry on top of the cake of their personal set of results.
Owen’s success was even more remarkable given that across all his exams he aggregated a score of 97.4 per cent – truly outstanding.
Headmaster Simon Williams told The Herald: “Of course, as is well known, exam results are only part of the success story for the children at Churcher’s.
“There are the richest of veins of talents at the top of Ramshill and a real ambition to realise those talents, be they academic, musical, theatrical or sporting.
“It is fantastic to sign off the year with academic glory to add to the Churcher’s win at the Nat West National Rugby Vase at Twickenham; the Churcher’s team crossing the finishing line of the gruelling Ten Tors challenge on Dartmoor before everyone else; the Churcher’s orchestra performing to critical, Italian acclaim on the shores of Lake Garda; Churcher’s topping the maths world as part of the UK Maths Olympiad in Thailand and a host of other special moments.
“As always teachers and parents alike are delighted to give all the children their due deserts, a standing ovation for another great year of ambition, endeavour and achievement!”
