An Action Group has been set up in Whitehill and Bordon to help improve facilities in the town for indoor sports and recreation. The group, an offshoot of the Town Partnership organisation, will highlight the indoor sports and recreational facilities already available in the town and help organisers promote such facilities with the help of the new town newsletter and website in addition to the Bordon Bulletin, the library and local press and radio. As part of series of events planned for next year, the organisers would be planning a project called FLY (For Local Youth) which would be run along similar lines to an event in Surrey last year. Activities will be sponsored by both local businesses and local authority funding and could include events such as music workshop events, DJ workshops, live band festivals and films. Action group leader Jane Dawes, the director of the Phoenix Theatre and Arts Centre said: "There is actually a lot going on in the locality which people aren't aware of and we want to draw people's attention to all the activities available on their own doorstep. "In addition we realise that there are certain improvements we can make by organising events, particularly for young people which will be affordable and won't involve the need to travel far. "Music events and films are just a couple of the things we want to do for local youth, but most of all we want young people to be involved in the decision making." A committee will be set up which will work with the Bordon Youth Umbrella Group to organise the Fly event, and will involve young people in the organisation. The committee would like an input for ideas and for anyone interested in helping to come forward. Please contact Jane Dawes at the Phoenix Arts Centre 01420 472664
