A senior Petersfield town councillor has urged the council to be "more proactive" in trying to let vacant office suites at the Town Hall.
Chris Jenner told fellow councillors at a meeting this week that the offices had been empty for too long and the situation was a major factor in the town council's current cash crisis.
Mr Jenner said: "We should tell the agent he has one or two months, then we change and get fresh impetus."
But he added the council should also review the current asking price. "I am increasingly irritated that even though we are in a bad financial situation we have had these vacant offices for 18 months.
"I could understand it if no offices were being built in Petersfield, but offices are still being built in Petersfield."
Mr Jenner said: "I think we should take proactive action to get these suites let, even at a slightly reduced rate.
"We either need to tart them up so they look like they are worth what we are asking or reduce what we are asking."
He added: "If we ask too much money they will stay there forever and a day."
Mr Jenner said the council had only budgeted for a loss of rental income for six months.
Councillors agreed that action was needed and resolved to review the situation in two months' time.
The town clerk, Barbara Macken, said there had been a continual stream of people to see the offices but the agent had indicated their condition was putting prospective tenants off.
The council had previously agreed to decorate the suites but to date that work has not been carried out.
