TEAM GB’s hopes for a World Athletics Championships medal in the women’s 800metres, are pinned on former Camelsdale Primary School pupil Adelle Tracey.
The British Athletics star, who now lives in Dunsfold, obtained automatic selection for the championships on getting the silver medal in the 800m at the British Championships, in July.
She will be running in the championships heats, which will be televised at 7.25pm tonight (Thursday), with the semi-final televised at 7.35pm on Friday and the final televised at 8.10pm on Sunday.
A 2012 Olympic Torch bearer, Adelle paid a special visit to her old school later that year with her torch and gave a motivational talk to pupils.
Already a talented athlete when a pupil, Adelle (right) began a running club at Camelsdale aged seven and ran with a teacher across the heathland around the school twice a week.
She was unable to join a district club until she was 11 and then joined the Haslemere Border Athletics Club but it lacked a 400m track and she moved to Guildford and Godalming AC, where she quickly made her mark.
Camelsdale headteacher Sarah Palmer said: “We are so proud of our ex-pupil – she’s a truly shining example of everything that embodies ‘the Camelsdale Way’ and a wonderful role model for our pupils.
“We have followed Adelle’s successful athletics career along the years and are all very excited ahead of tonight’s 800m heats.
“We send Adelle all our good wishes and will be cheering her on in true Camelsdale spirit.”
