CHILDREN have had the chance to tap into their inner adventurer in Hook during the Easter Holidays.

The course named, ‘I’m a raw adventurer… Get me in there!’ was held at Sherfield School. Run by Super Camps, the experience gave children the chance to learn the skills of an Australian outback explorer.

Expert staff helped the children, aged 7–14, to learn bushcraft survival techniques from the rainforests of Queensland and the deserts of the Northern Territory.

The revamped 2016 course offered craft projects, such as making survival bracelets and pennants. Kids channeling their inner Crocodile Dundee got to experience camp fire sessions with delicious outback delicacies. And they had a go at archery, as well as learning jungle first aid.

With the help of Zoolab, the young adventurers also had some close encounters with jungle animals. At the end, each child was awarded a jungle adventurer certificate, in recognition of their new skills and their contribution the group at the jungle camp.

The course helps children leave behind their normal lives, full of technology. It teaches them important, practical skills that they can take home to everyday life.

Knot-tying and the fundamentals of fire-making are just a couple of examples of the valuable life skills they learned. And instruction in camouflage techniques gives those who play video games a real-life understanding of what they see on screen at home.

One parent commented: “My twin boys loved the RAW Adventure, especially the outdoor activities, and cooking on the fire.”

The camp costs £200 per week. And there are more courses coming up in the May half-term, from May 31 to June 3. For more information, go to www.supercamps.co.uk
