Aldershot & Farnham finally achieved their season-long goal of promotion on Saturday, thanks to a very efficient performance against a good Gosport team.
Third-placed Fordingbridge's 3-2 defeat at Poole was a decisive result and means that Dave Jervis's side return to where they feel they belong – Hampshire Division One.
A&F could have been forgiven for starting nervously, considering the vital nature of the game. However, an excellent opening 10 minutes resulted in a two-goal burst.
First, after a fluent passing move, Graham Charlesworth raced clear of the visitors' defence before blasting home an unstoppable shot.
Moments later, a short-corner routine presented Simon Slater with the opportunity to coolly lift the ball over the 'keeper.
A&F continued to play attractive and intense hockey before good home support, with the midfield continuing to dominate the game.
In the second half, the south coast team played good hockey of their own, only to be met with a well-organised defensive wall.
Although the Gosport 'keeper brought off top-class saves from Graham Matthews and Charlesworth, he was powerless to prevent Steve Ferrer's thunderbolt finding the net.
Three-nil was probably a fair reflection of the play. A&F are now looking forward to meeting fresh challenges next season.
Division One, in fact, promises to be an interesting competition, with A&F coming up against local rivals Haslemere (on their down from the Regional) and Petersfield. Alton, unfortunately, are heading back the other way to Division Two.
A&F: Boston, Jones, Jervis, Edwards, Wilcox, Islip, Ferrer, Oldale, Boulle, Matthews, Charlesworth, Slater.
