A COUPLE who meet romantically once a year for 25 years are the stars Same Time, Next Year running at the Theatre Royal Winchester from Wednesday until February 5.

Doris and George start their unusual long-term relationship with a passionate one-night stand at a Californian hotel in 1951.

Both are married to other people but realising this might be the start of something, promise to meet on the same weekend a year later.

So begins a love affair that lasts until 1975.

The play by Canadian playwright Bernard Slade charts their ups and downs as parents, career highs and lows, and the changing fashions and morals of passing decades.

Sarah Kempton and Kieran Buckeridge star in this bittersweet, nostalgic and funny production directed by Michael Cabot of the London Classic Theatre.
