BETTERMATHS hosted a special open day to celebrate 10 years of trading in Alton.

The event took place at the Alton Maltings Centre on February 27 and was attended by Alton mayor Pam Jones, who presented an Outstanding Achievement Award to Aimee Bryant.

According to Bettermaths principal Andew Kuttner, Aimee embarked on the programme when she was in year eight and went on to achieve her maths GCSE at the end of her second year at college.

Aimee has a combination of learning, developmental and “home” difficulties, making it an exceptional achievement. She is a valued member of the Bettermaths team and has also gained in her personal development, in particular her confidence, said Mr Kuttner.

The student said: “I never fully understood maths while at school, but when I joined Bettermaths I started to get an understanding of the subject, which then led me to pass my GCSE in maths at college.

“This then let me go on to do a course that I have always wanted to do, level three childcare. Without Bettermaths I wouldn’t have been able to do this course.”

Mr Kuttner added: “This would not have been possible without Aimee’s dedication and perseverance and the support of her grandmother.”
