Herald photographer Katie Hill followed the group of Dutch Second World War airmen during their visit to the annual Wings and Wheel show at Dunsfold last weekend.
The four members of the Dutch Air Force 320 Squadron, who are all in their 90s, returned to the Surrey aerodrome which was their home for nine months in 1944 – as the Allied airforces tightened the squeeze on the Nazi miliary machine with mass bombings across occupied territory in Europe and in Germany’s industrial heartland.
Wings and Wheels event director Jamie McAllister said: “We were incredibly honoured to be hosting the visit of the remaining Dutch 320 squadron.
“The history of the aerodrome is never far from our thoughts and to have been able to welcome these veterans to the show and have the B-25 Mitchell flying as part of the display was a wonderful tribute to them and their comrades.”
