Aldershot recently beat St Albans 3-0 on their own ground, but there was no repeat of that trouncing as the sides played out a tame draw on Saturday.

Without a victory in four matches, Aldershot badly need to win their final match of the season at Boreham Wood on Saturday, not just to give themselves a chance of snatching third place from Purfleet, but to regain the winning habit ahead of Wednesday's Hampshire Senior Cup Final at Southampton's St Mary's Stadium.

A crowd of 1,637 did their best to will Aldershot to victory in their last home game, but it was not to be.

They looked to be on their way after taking the lead on 22 minutes, Mark Bentley heading in his first league goal of the year after a superb run and perfect cross by Chris Allen.

But City were in no mood to be the whipping boys and came out for the second half with all guns blazing.

Younes Nabil was denied by the woodwork and the equaliser followed on 58 minutes.

Gary Ansell helped on a cross from Darren Baxter and Mike Bignall headed home from close range.

A triple substitution by manager Terry Brown had the desired effect and Aldershot looked a much livelier side.

But Richard Wilmot saved superbly from Dave Carroll and Stafford Browne, and Aldershot had to be content with a point.

Aldershot: Howells, Protheroe, Chewins, Kirby, Coll, Holsgrove, Carroll, Bentley (Harford 68 mins), Payne (Watson 68 mins), Browne, Allen (Parker 68 mins).

Aldershot lost 2-0 at Braintree in a midweek match they will want to forget.

The match started a quarter of an hour late, Aldershot having arrived only 10 minutes before the scheduled kick-off.

The stressful four-hour journey seemed to have left its mark on Aldershot who went down to goals by Mark Jones and Gavin Cowan.

By Wednesday this week, Aldershot had sold 1,300 of their 2,000 tickets for the Hampshire Senior Cup final against Dr Martens Premier side Havant & Waterlooville
