Struggling Alton Town produced an emphatic away win to dent Ringwood's hopes of the Hampshire Premier league title. In the same league Liss Athletic would like it known that they drew 1-1 away at Esso - the Hampshire League official bulletins having mistakenly circulated the message that they lost.
RUGBY - Alton made club history by beating Havant 28-27 in a nail-biting Hampshire Cup semi-final. It was their second giant-killing act, having put out Winchester in the quarters. The final, against Basingstoke (current leaders of London Division I) is at Basingstoke on April 1.
Meanwhile the club's under 16s have also made it to their county cup final, with a last-gasp winning try against Winchester.
HOCKEY - Haslemere's hopes of remaining in the Hants/Surrey regional league rest on them taking the points against Trojans this Saturday, they having lost 4-1 to league leaders Oxted last week. Injury-hit Petersfield went down to Blandford 1-3 in the Hampshire division one.
CRICKET - Liphook CC members were delighted to read of the success their overseas player of three seasons, Chris Nevin, has been enjoying with the New Zealand one-day side. He was named man-of-the-match in a recent victory over Australia.
