CONTROVERSIAL plans for a new all-weather pitch at Heath End School received a huge boost this week with the granting of a £390,000 lottery grant.

The project, turned down three times by Waverley's planning committee before finally being approved in February 1998, means that a synthetic turf pitch, along with floodlighting and upgraded changing facilities, can now be built in the corner of the school's playing field.
