THE Challengers third annual golf day, held at Hindhead Golf Club, saw European Tour player James Morrison and golfing legend, Peter Alliss, join 20 teams of keen golfers for a special day raising more than £17,500 for Challengers.

The sun was shining when 80 golfers gathered for a shotgun round of golf, playing one of the most prestigious courses in Surrey. There were prizes for longest drive, nearest the pin and a Beat the Pro challenge with Morrison, a two time winner on tour.

Each golfer went up against James, who chose golf ahead of a chance to be an England cricketer to see who could get closest to the pin which led to a great atmosphere, a little competition and lots of laughter.

Challengers is a local charity which provides fun and exciting play and leisure schemes for disabled children and young people.

Currently supporting more than 1,400 families across 26 different schemes, Challengers has a fun-packed Easter holid lined up with lots of activities taking place including as music workshops, messy art, mobile farm visits, companion cycling, just to name a few.

After 18 holes, golfers returned to the clubhouse for dinner and some more games including a quiz where their golf knowledge was tested.

BBC commentator Peter Alliss, joined them for dinner with his wife Jackie, who helps organise numerous charity golf days throughout the year, including the Peter Alliss Masters, which takes place at Old Thorns, Liphook, on September 26.

Challengers’ events and communications manager Hannah Woollven said: “The day was absolutely fantastic. We were blessed with the weather and it was lovely to see everyone enjoying the course.

• “The amazing sum of money will make a huge difference to the children and young people that come to Challengers.”
