THE introduction in the Alton area of alternate weekly collections of refuse and recyclable materials will commence from the week beginning October 28.
This is later than the September start date originally envisaged, due to operational setbacks.
According to East Hampshire District CouncilÕs waste reduction officer Sarah Incher, delivery of black recycling bins will start this week.
ÒWe estimate that it will take about six weeks to complete deliveries but anyone who has not received their bin by October 18 should contact the EHDC waste reduction team for further advice,Ó she said.
This is phase two of East HampshireÕs alternate weekly collection, already under way in the Bordon and Petersfield part of the district.
ÒEach household in Phase Two areas will be sent a leaflet containing information on getting started with alternate weekly collections,Ó said Ms Incher.
ÒThe leaflet also gives details of the garden waste collection service which is being introduced as part of the scheme.Ó
Garden waste will be collected from a reusable plastic woven sack supplied by EHDC and will be collected fortnightly on the same day as recyclables.
The service is available at a subsidised charge of £12 per sack per year. Residents who receive housing or council tax Benefit are entitled to receive one free sack per year.
Householders will also receive an advice card showing whether their first collection under the new scheme will be for recyclables (black bin) or refuse (green bin).
The areas to be brought in under the second phase of the scheme will include: Alton, Bentley, Binsted, Buriton, Chawton, Clanfield, Colemore and Priors Dean, East Meon, East Tisted, Farringdon, Four Marks, Froxfield, Hawkley, Kingsley, Langrish, Liss, Newton Valence, Ropley, Rowlands Castle, Selborne, Shalden, Steep, Stroud, West Tisted, Wield, Worldham, plus parts of Horndean, Blackmoor, Greatham and Medstead.
