FOUR goals in 15 minutes put paid to Bournemouth on Saturday as Alton notched up their biggest win in the Jewson Wessex League.

Alton had the upper hand from the start, but again failed to finish off their openings, due to a combination of delaying the final shot and trying to walk the ball into the net.

But just as it seemed that the first half would finish goalless, Ian Dyer's cross from the left was strongly headed home by Richard Mealey – much to the frustration of the visitors.

After the break, Alton scored three times in the first 15 minutes to end the game as a contest.

Suddenly, everything came together in the attacking context for Alton. Dave Bridger slid the ball home when released in a one-on-one, Danny McGarry burst forward to shoot past the advancing goalkeeper, and Dyer made it 4-0 after rounding Bournemouth's crestfallen 'keeper whose defence was being ripped apart by the rampant home side.

With the game secure, manager Dave Hawtin replaced the injured Simon Pullman and rested John Edwards and McGarry who were carrying knocks .

But the changes did nothing to disrupt Alton's momentum and Bridger and Dyer both scored again as Town retained the ball well and played some confident football.

The hard-working visitors remained defiant and had the last word when a 30-yard shot from Ross Drew found the top corner of the net, giving young Lee Marker no chance .

Alton Tn 3, Moneyfields 1. This was an excellent win for Alton on Monday to complete a good Easter weekend and put a run of poor results firmly behind them.

Again, Town dominated the game, although Moneyfields again proved to be a powerful and committed side. Twice before this season, they had pulled back two-goal deficits against Alton.

With John Edwards leading by example, the home side worked hard to gain the upper hand. They went behind against the run of play, but continued to press forward and were rewarded when Dyer cleverly fed the ball into the path of Bridger who beat the advancing 'keeper with ease.

Straight after half-time, Alton took the lead when a Dyer corner was stabbed home at the near post by Edwards.

A free-kick on the edge of the box bought an excellent diving save from Richard Ronchetti in the home goal.

The killer goal came with 20 minutes left. Bridger shrugged off the last defender in pursuit of Edwards' through-ball and thumped an angled shot into the far corner.

After a highly creditable first season in the Jewson Wessex, Alton would love to win their final match this Saturday when they entertain Blackfield & Langley at the Bass Ground.
