Alton Local Food Initiative hosted its annual Seedy Saturday at Alton Methodist Church Hall on the morning of February 11.

A steady stream of supporters and interested residents enjoyed tea, coffee, cakes and biscuits as they sat and chatted to each other or committee members.

Seed packets were there to swap or take away for a donation. There were a lot of vegetables and herbs, flower seeds including companion marigolds that keep white fly away from carrots, and potatoes to plant.

The ALFI leaflet and winter newsletter were available to take away for those who had not got the former and had not received the latter electronically as a supporter.

Each quarter ALFI sends out an electronic newsletter giving dates for plot-working parties, tasty seasonal recipes and information on other activities and events from ALFI and its partners.

To help ALFI, get in touch at www.altonlocalfood.org.uk – the group is keen for a volunteer to do the website and handle other electronic aspects of its work, but anyone with an interest in growing food locally is welcome to join.
