AN ALTON man has a claim to the title of Britain’s luckiest man after scooping his second dream car and cash prize in as many years in an online raffle.

Al Costello, a 51-year-old dad, bagged a brand-new Porsche Macan with £20,000 in the boot thanks to competition company Best of the Best (BOTB) – just two years after winning an Audi in the same way.

The author of technical manuals won the near-£50,000 wheels after paying just £1.40 for his ticket to enter BOTB’s Midweek Car Competition.

Mr Costello was at home in Alton when he got a knock on the door from BOTB and Virgin Radio presenter, and self-confessed “car nut”, Christian Williams, who came to tell him the good news.

“It’s just fantastic,” he said. “To be surprised once is amazing and a huge shock but to see Christian at the door again was something else!”

Mr Costello won an Audi in the same competition in July 2020 – but decided to take the cash alternative the firm offers to help him get on the property ladder. This time he played for the Porsche so he could upgrade his old Infiniti.

“I’ve always liked the look of the Porsche Macan,” he added. “I had a chance to test drive one a few years ago which was great. The car ticks a lot of boxes for us!”

The Porsche boasts a 400 Torque i4 Turbo engine with 262 brake horsepower under the bonnet.

Since being founded in 1999 by William Hindmarch at Heathrow Airport, BOTB has given away cars worth more than £47 million.

The company, listed on the stock market, hands over the keys to two ‘dream cars’ each week as well as a ‘lifestyle’ prize. Recent winners have bagged a quad bike, a holiday to the Arctic and £15,000 in cash.

BOTB’s Christian said: “What a lucky guy Al is – he played for a fantastic prize once again and I’m so excited for him. Massive congratulations!”
