THE ever-popular annual Alton Pancake Race was held last Tuesday.

As always, the competition was fierce with racers of all ages barrelling down the track laid out in the Public Gardens.

Superman, Spider Man and an astronaut were all spotted flipping pancakes at top speeds.

Town mayor Derek Gardner said the event "has grown in strength and popularity year on year" and is "looked forward to by many local families".
