TWO local students defied death when a hurricane force blizzard threatened to sweep them from the face of a snowbound mountain in the Scottish highlands.

Thomas Collins (18) from Newton Valence, and former Alton College colleague Philip Salway (19), now studying biology at Oxford, used a mobile phone to call for help when their tent was destroyed in freak weather conditions during an expedition in the Cairngorms.
