THE CHRISTMAS revelry was a little too much for some, it seems – with one of Alton’s famous marmots, Meribel, looking a little worse for wear the day after Boxing Day...
In fairness to the skiing rodent, and pal of Marmite, her mishap did coincide with Storm Bella blowing through the area – leading to numerous reports of fallen trees and damaged fences.
Poor Meribel was made safe and disconnected from the electricity supply by Alton Town Council officers on the morning of December 27, and later put back on her feet by council contractors.
The town council posted online: “Thank you to the resident who let us know one of the marmots have taken a tumble in the storm.”
Other areas of the UK experienced flooding, snow and winds of more than 100mph as Storm Bella struck over the weekend.
