WEYDON School student Amelia Bowen has received a British Nutrition Foundation (BNF) Education Award from Princess Anne for outstanding achievements in her food and nutrition studies.

Amelia Bowen’s food and nutrition teachers, Nicky Hayes and Yvonne Child, also received an award for their ongoing commitment and support.

The awards were presented by the BNF’s patron, The Princess Royal, at the annual BNF Education Award ceremony in London, on Tuesday, November 14.

The BNF established the Education Awards scheme in 1990 to promote interest in, and raise awareness of, good practice in food and nutrition.

This year prizes were awarded to school and college students who received the highest grades in food and nutrition subjects from their respective examination boards – Amelia Bowen was awarded for her outstanding results in the OCR GCSE Home Economics: Food and Nutrition qualification.

Roy Ballam, managing director and head of education, BNF, said: “Every year our Education Awards provide us with the rare opportunity to recognise some of the UK’s brightest students and most diligent teachers, who are driving the future of nutrition science.

“This year marks the BNF’s 50th anniversary, and the Education Awards is a key part of our history – we look forward to many more years celebrating nutrition excellence in UK education.”

Nicky Hayes, who attended the event with Amelia, said: “The event hosted by the BNF was inspirational and it was wonderful to see Milly being recognised and rewarded for her hard work and amazing achievement.”
