YOUNG Farnham actor Amelia Charman won't be overcome with stage fright when she takes to the stage in A Christmas Carol at The Haymarket, Basingstoke from next week.

The ten-year-old talent, who plays five roles in the Charles Dickens favourite, says acting is no problem and she doesn't suffer from nerves.

"Acting's quite easy. It's all about putting expression into your voice and thinking ahead about what you're doing.

"I'm not a nervous person. I looked at the stage and thought it's quite big - big enough," she nonchalantly laughs.

Amelia has to combine the life of an actor with that of a pupil - at St Nicholas's in Church Crookham.

She says the regime, which sees her whisked off to rehearsals straight from school and doing her homework the next morning, is "quite tiring, but I find it easy". She also manages to squeeze in practising the electric guitar and piano, and doubtless rehearsals will follow for her role as one of the angels in the school's nativity play.

Her favourites of stage and screen are the comic actors Jim Carey and Steve Coogan.

"I like comedy but I would like to do straight acting as well because I wouldn't want to make a fool of myself in public all the time."

Back to A Christmas Carol - her five roles are: Tiny Tim; Fizzy Wig's daughter, Fanny, the ghost of "Want" and a school girl.

Her favourite part is Want, which she describes as "fun".

And playing a boy - Tiny Tim - is no problem. "I'm a bit of a tomboy," Amelia laughs.

A Christmas Carol runs at The Haymarket, Basingstoke from December 10 to January 15.
