PUPILS from Amery Hill School in Alton joined other schoolchildren across the country in hosting its fifth annual BBC School Report.

The day involved Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9 students coming off timetable for a day to work as journalists.

Each ‘BBC correspondent’ had just five lessons to complete the planning, research, interviews and writing of stories before being asked to submit them for editing ready for to be published at 3pm.

One Year 9 student, who was busy working on a story called ‘The Dangers of the internet’ said of her experience working on the BBC school report: “It has been a really fun experience as we don’t get the opportunity to do this kind of thing in normal lessons. I have enjoyed being able to work closely with my friends.”

Dionne Winch, head of media studies at Amery Hill, was delighted with the opportunity afforded to the students and with the result.

She said: “I am incredibly proud of what the students achieved in the short time they were given and it was a pleasure to work with them all.

Articles ranged from the ‘mystery surrounding avacodos’ to the ‘value of sport‘ and from ‘the reality of imagination’ to ‘sustainable development and how to change the world in 17 steps’.
