‘OUT of Darkness: Rembrandt and Caravaggio’ is the title of a lecture by Ronnie Ireland, chairman of Farnham Art Society, on Wednesday, May 3, as part of the Farnham Public Art Trust’s summer season of lectures.

Rembrandt and Caravaggio were two great artists who led very different lives and worked in very different societies but one thing they had in common was their dramatic use of ‘chiaroscuro’, the treatment of light and shade in a painting giving an effect of contrasted light and shadow.

The character and story of the two artists gave this dramatic lighting a very different feel as both journeyed ‘Out of Darkness’. The lecture on May 3 will be at the St Joan’s Centre, Tilford Road, Farnham, GU9 8DJ.

Tickets are £6 (students £2) payable at the door. Doors open at 7.30pm for an 8pm start. Enquiries: 01252 702449.
