AFTER weeks of speculation, a new tenant looks set to take on the former Lo-Cost supermarket site in Haslemere High Street.

A spokesman for leaseholders the Co-operative Group told The Herald on Wednesday that a business described as a "regional non-food retailer" expects to be moving into the 5,000 sq ft premises within the next couple of months.

The news of a new business in the town could bring the long-running saga of a string of unsuccessful bids for the biggest shop in the centre of town to an end.

The site has been empty for more than five years and a number of prospective tenants have pulled out of negotiations including the clothiers, Mackays, and Haslemere bedding shop, The Land of Nod.
