The Ancora ladies’ choir - started by Mac Newton for Alton’s first Wonder of Christmas concert in 2006 - celebrated its 20th birthday with a highly entertaining anniversary concert.
At a packed Salvation Army Hall, musical director Lii Carr helped the choir - including some former members - sing classical pieces, Regency music, lilting traditional songs and a 1960s party medley with enthusiasm and a warm choral blend.
U3A group Ukulele for Fun, led by Brian Good, added humour, fun and a jolly singalong with well-known folk and pop songs. Accompanist Jane Palmer, percussionist Chris Gardner and flautist Kathy Starkey made significant contributions.
There was a retiring collection for Guide Dogs UK, and a birthday party complete with cake was enjoyed by the performers and audience as a fitting end to the celebrations.
